The Comeragh Mountains and Nire Valley Drive embraces the scenery and splendors of the mountains which form the spine of County Waterford.

Panoramas include the Atlantic coast to the south and Slieve na mBán in the Galty Mountains above Clonmel to the North on the Nire Drive. Other highlights on this drive include pre-historic sites, standing stones, fulachta fiadhs and cairns at Kilbrien, Mothel Abbey, Mahon Falls and, of course, horse riding and angling.

  • From the Square in Dungarvan, head north on the R675 towards Bridge Street.
  • Turn left at Davitts Quay and continue onto Shandon.
  • At the roundabout take the third exit onto the N25 and go through two more roundabouts.
  • Travel straight on the N25 for about 12.7km until you meet Lemybrien.
  • Take the first left (R676) as you enter Lemybrien and travel straight on for about 15km until you reach Ballyhest crossroads.
  • Turn left at the crossroads onto the R678 and travel straight on for about 14km.
  • Stay on the R678.
  • At the roundabout take the first exit onto the Raheen road (R680).
  • Turn left at McDonagh Crescent (R668) and continue to follow the R668.
  • At the roundabout take the first exit onto the Dungarvan road (R665) and continue to follow the R665.
  • At the next roundabout take the second exit and stay on the R665.
  • Turn left to stay on the R665 and continue straight on for about 9km.
  • Continue on the R668 and travel straight onto Main Street (R665) in Clogheen.
  • Head southwest on Main Street towards Convent Street (R668).
  • Turn left onto Convent road and then turn left again.
  • Travel straight on into Newcastle and continue onto Liam Lynch Terrace and straight on for about 5.5km.
  • Turn right towards the R671.
  • Turn slightly right at R671 and travel straight on until you meet Ballymacarbry.
  • From Ballymacarbry head southeast on the R671 for about 5km.
  • Continue straight on the R672 for about 15km.
  • Turn left onto the N72 and continue straight on the R672 for about 3km until you return back to Dungarvan.
